This full-time 24-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project specifically seeks to optimise corrosion prevention and enhance control algorithms to reduce the environmental and financial burden of installing new cables.

This unique opportunity will bring together an exciting combination of expertise in electronic & electrical engineering and subsea chemistry to understand electrochemical corrosion, working alongside academics from one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities. 

Due to funding requirements this role must start by September 2025 and will be based 5 days a week at the Viper’s premises in Portishead near Bristol.

Whilst working as a KTP Associate, you will lead this high profile and strategically meaningful project, allowing you to apply your academic achievements in an industrial setting. You will receive practical and formal training, gain marketable skills, broaden your knowledge and expertise within an industrially relevant project, and be supported by both industrial and academic mentors. You will be responsible for engaging with and embedding new knowledge within both the business partner and the University.

Viper Innovations Ltd supply electrical monitoring and asset integrity solutions for global industries including subsea and rail. They provide award winning products and services offering practical solutions for their clients real world problems.  

The ideal candidate will have:

  • BEng/Meng or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline;
  • A PhD relevant to Electronic Material Science or extensive R&D experience within industry;
  • Experience and/or qualification in Electrochemistry;
  • Experience of experimentation and/or experimental methods;
  • Capability in driving initiatives forward;
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills;
  • Good communication and organisation skills.

The Centre of Excellence in Water Based Early Warning Systems for Health Protection is working to transform public and environmental health management, establishing the first Urban Living Lab facility; a state-of-the-art digital water sensing platform, training base and ideas hub. The centre combines sensing, mathematical modelling, data analytics and informatics with epidemiology and public engagement tools to provide low-cost and real-time community-wide testing of population health and the environment.

Applications are invited for a Post-doctoral Research Associate position to develop omics based diagnostic tools to measure indicators of disease (from genes, metabolites through to proteins) via urban water profiling with state-of-the-art hyphenated chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques (QTOF, MALDI-TOF-TOF and triple quadrupole) as well as dPCR technology. 

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in Omics Research in the Centre of Excellence in Water Based Early Warning Systems for Health Protection.

  • a PhD (or equivalent) in mass spectrometry related research areas such as proteomics and metabolomics.

The successful candidate will work closely with other Research Associates, academic leads, technical specialists (water, mass spectrometry and data engineer) and PhD students in the Centre to deliver a unique water-based early warning system for (infectious) disease diagnostics.

This is a fixed-term position, expected to last 24 months.

In 2027 the Centre will have Prize Fellowship opportunities which may be of interest to candidates wishing to progress. These will be advertised and recruited through an open selection process.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.
